Common questions
Do I need to buy Playboook to refer friends?
No. The affiliate program is open to anyone with an account — buying is optional. The consultation reward is the same whether you've bought the handbook or not.
When does the friend discount apply?
During the 7-day founding window everyone pays £49 regardless of how they arrived; the founding discount is bigger than the referral discount, so they don't stack. Once the founding window closes, your link gives friends 20% off the standing £99 (£79.20). Lemon Squeezy auto-applies whichever discount is the bigger of the two.
What counts as a qualified referral?
A paid purchase. We mark the referral as qualified the moment the webhook confirms payment landed (so within seconds of your friend checking out). Refunds reverse the qualification — if a friend refunds and the count drops below three, the consultation unlock pauses until you net three paid again.
How do I get the consultation once I hit three?
You'll get an email from hello@playboook.com with a Notion booking link. Pick any open slot. The maintainer confirms by email. The session itself is on video; calendar invite arrives a day before.
Is there a limit on how many friends I can refer?
No cap, no expiry on the credit. Once you've unlocked the consultation, you can keep referring — the ledger keeps counting, and future perks for high-volume referrers are something the maintainer may add later (no promises yet).
Can I refer myself?
No. Self-referrals are blocked at three layers: the middleware refuses to stamp a referral cookie for your own link, the payment webhook drops self-attribution, and a database trigger refuses to record the row. If you've been testing your own link in dev and see the "referred by yourself" banner stick around, clear the pb_ref cookie.
What about international friends?
The handbook applies specifically to the UK Global Talent Visa — Architecture route under ACE / RIBA. It won't be useful to friends applying via different routes or visas. The discount mechanics work for any country, but the product itself is route-specific. When in doubt, send them the welcome chapter first (it's free to read) so they can self-assess.
